Patricia Boal is a Canadian news anchor and radio host. She co-anchors CTV News at Six and hosts her radio show "Ottawa at Work With Patricia Boal" on Newstalk 580 CFRA. Her co-host on CTV News is Graham Richardson.
Patricia has worked in the media industry since 1994.
Early Life
Patricia Boal was born on 20 May 1970 and raised by her parents at Riverside Park (Ottawa). She attended Glebe Collegiate, a high school in Ottawa, Canada.
Patricia remembers watching CJOH-TV (now CTV Ottawa) daily with her family. While journalism was not what she had in mind at that time as a career, the show did leave an impression.
Education
Patricia graduated from McGill University with an Honors BA in English. After completing her English degree, she wanted to go to law school. However, when she started writing for her school newspaper, she changed her mind and decided to pursue journalism.
Before starting her job at 580 CFRA, she attended Algonquin College.
Career
Patricia has a history of radio hosting, having worked at Ottawa's New Country 94. After finishing her degree, Steve Winogron, the then-news director at CFRA, recommended Patricia for an internship.
The internship convinced Patricia to pursue broadcasting instead of writing. She was also a sideline reporter for CFRA's Ottawa Rough Riders Broadcast.
Patricia hosted the Sens pay-per-view games for two seasons as part of the SENSTV CTV crew. She started her television career as the first bureau reporter for the Score TV Network, mainly covering news in Montreal and Ottawa.
Patricia had a sterling career working at CFRA, the Score, and CTV Ottawa. She was a sports anchor at CTV Ottawa before moving to become an 11:30 news anchor.
She hosted Overtime on Rogers TV, a show focusing on Ottawa senators. Her passion for storytelling and sharing breaking news has enabled Patricia to be at the forefront of major live coverages.
Some of her best-known works include live coverages of
- The Paul Bernardo murder trial (1995) Toronto
- NO Camp Referendum vote in Montreal (1995)
- Canadian soldiers in Herzegovina and Bosnia (1999)
- Olympic Games in Brazil (2016), London (2012), and Vancouver (2010)
- Youth Olympics in Singapore (2010)
- Ottawa's Tornado Hits (2018)
- The Stories of Homeowners Hit by the Floods (2017 & 2019)
Patricia also had the honor of interviewing Corey Hart (Canadian singer), Daniel Alfredsson (senator captain), and the late Alex Trebek (Jeopardy Host).
She interviewed Alex, whom she admired for years as she was a great fan of Jeopardy when he already had cancer. Unfortunately, Alex died later in November 2020.
Patricia and Graham emcee many events together. She also co-hosts CHEO's annual telethon. Patricia Boal would love to interview Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama.
Patricia Boal holds several leadership positions and is a board member of the Kaleidoscope of Hope, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and the Shepherds of Good Hope. She is also an honorary member of the STRIDE assistance for people with disabilities.
Patricia's net worth is between $1 million and $5 million, and her annual salary ranges between $70,000 and $150,000. Due to her professionalism and experience, Patricia earns the position of veteran journalist at CTV, joining the great Matt Skube.
Marriage
Patricia was once married to Gord Wilson, Ottawa senator's commentator. They met at CFRA when Patricia started working there.
Patricia admits she initially disliked him due to his rude first response. But Gord asked her out, and they decided to get married after several dates. They had a private wedding without information about the date and location.
Gord eventually moved to TSN 1200. She was a great support system for Gord Wilson, 63, through his health scare. He suffered a heart attack in February 2020. Shortly after, he contracted COVID-19 when traveling to Chicago with the Senators' team for the National Hockey League.
In an interview, Patricia admitted that juggling the kids and a sick husband was tough. But she loved spending time with her kids, watching movies, and having a good time at home. Fortunately, apart from her husband, none of the kids or herself got COVID-19.
In early 2023, a fan noted that Patricia had stopped wearing her wedding ring. Patricia confirmed their breakup in an interview. She mentioned that their separation had occurred in mid-2021.
Patricia remains single but happily shares her home with her children and two golden retrievers, Jackson and Levi.
Children
Gord and Patricia have three children, Jake, Lindsay, and Jessica, who they co-parent together. Gord already had a daughter, Kristin, with a former partner but now lived with him and Patricia. However, Patricia does not share much about her kids or parents online.
Gord and Patricia traveled a lot. Her parents helped by taking in her older daughter. Fortunately, after a few years, their two older daughters could care for the younger siblings.
Patricia interviewed her stepdaughter, Kristin, on "Ottawa at Work" on the importance of screening for breast cancer. Kristin had been diagnosed with breast cancer while carrying her secondborn child. She gave birth to her son while eight months pregnant after chemotherapy sessions ended.
Personal Life
Patricia seems to enjoy good health at the age of 54. She is 5 feet and 7 inches tall and weighs 52kg. She maintains a good physique, maybe because she attends various sporting events with her colleagues.
The only time there was a health scare for Patricia was when her husband, Gord, was sick. She and her kids had to go into self-isolation in their home.
On her show "Ottawa at Work," Patricia often hosts experts on health matters. As a former sports anchor, she takes physical health seriously. She has hosted charitable events for organizations such as the Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Mission.
Conclusion
Patricia has accumulated wealth after working for over 32 years in the media business, moving through various departments. She started working at a young age, immediately after graduating. Patricia began on general assignments at CFR before joining Score TV as a sports reporter.
